A CLINICAL AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE FACIAL BONE FRACTURES


Abstract
This study is the clinical analysis of the facial bone fractures, excluding the nasal bone fractures, of 103 patients(148 factures) who. had admitted in Seoul adventist Hospital from May 1986 to December 1991.
The following results were obtained
1. The montlJy incidence was highest in October and least in January. The-incidence of facial bone fracture was shown to be indreased annually.
2. The most prevalent age group was the 20¢¥s(46.6%), and males were more predominant than females(by 6.4 : 1).
3. The most common cause was motor vehicle accident (53.3%0), followed by fall(16.5%), and interpersonal assault(15.5%a).
4. A total of 148 classified facial¢¥ bone fractures were diagnosed in 103 patients. The most common site was mandible (43.2% ), followed by zygoma (33.1 %) , and maxilla (12.8 % ).
5. 21(20.4%) patients had sustained multiple facial bone fractures.
6. Associated facial soft tissue injuries were combined in 39(37.9%) patients and fractures other than facial bones were showed in 18 patients (17.5% ).
7. 88.7% of the patients were operated within lweek from the injured time and most of the fractures were treated by open reduction.
8. The postoperative complications were infection, infraorbital anesthesia, diplopia, TM joint ankylosis and others.
